Welcome to 'generation rent'!
New blog launched MAY 2012. Focused on rental and property issues.
As the average age of the first time buyer now stands at 37, I feel it is important to recognise the role the younger, rental market plays in society- the social phenomena that the media has labelled "Generation Rent". "Generation rent" (also sometimes known as 'Generation Y') is typically anyone born between 1st January 1980 and 31st December 31 1989- if you are in this age group, chances are you will be renting a property now, or will do some time in the near future. This may be because you cannot afford the huge deposits demanded by mortgage companies in order to secure a house (typically 25% which on a £150,000 house is a whopping £37.500!). This blog is intended to record my observations regarding the current rental market and to provide a place to help young people like myself start to negotiate the rental market.
This blog touches on issues faced by both landlord and tenant. The blog may be used by both landlords and tenants.
